Museum @ My Queenstown

Client: My Community

THE BRIEF

Together with the volunteers of My Community, we were tasked to design and create a community museum to commemorate one of the oldest satellite neighbourhood in Singapore – Queenstown.

Queenstown has a rich heritage and has changed a lot over the years. The biggest challenge was to capture all that in a 60 year-old shophouse at Block 46-3 Commonwealth Drive.

THE IDEA & EXECUTION

The first thing most people remember about Queenstown is the iconic blue of its MRT station. So we used shades of blue to give the space a minimalist makeover. The simple and singular “blue look” helped the space stand out in the neighbourhood and quickly signalled to passersby that it is unmistakably Queenstown.

Despite its modern aesthetics, we knew it was important to preserve the heritage of the shop itself, so we preserved its tiled floorings giving visitors a hint of the shophouse’s past.
